Bilateral internal thoracic artery grafts (BITA) have recently emerged as the preferred alternative for patients undergoing CABG. The advantages include improved long-term patency rate and improved survival rate. Certain patients who have previously undergone CABG can require a second procedure known as a redo CABG. This could be due to the progression of coronary artery disease or the failure of the attached conduit. Redo CABG is a more challenging procedure as the patients are generally older, have more comorbidities, and have more sclerotic arteries.

In the past few years, several studies have provided increasing evidence to support using BITA in primary CABG and redo CABG.
