A 34-year-old woman presented to the hospital with seven days of bloody diarrhea and lower abdominal cramping. She mentioned upto ten urgent trips to the bathroom daily and a 5-lb weight loss with dehydration. She did not have extraintestinal manifestations or a history of recent antibiotic or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug use. Laboratory investigations and abdominal radiographs were significant only for a hemoglobin level of 10.8 g/dL. She was a nonsmoker, had no history of medical illness or surgeries and no known sick contacts or exposure to tainted foods.
