There is a widespread practice of putting band aids usually a round patch on puncture site. In my practice of > 30 yrs, I have seen a great change the way pathology is practiced now. We have hardly used any such cosmetic thing and we may have collected blood from lacs of patients during this period. Does this really matter? Patients are always in hurry and they think that putting a band aid at local site will be sufficient.Practically blood stops oozing from local site after clotting within few mins and leaves no sign afterwards.
However, if we put a band aid and in a hurry patient goes away without letting blood clot properly one can develop subcutaneous hematoma and can also develop thrombophlebitis. More so in cases of vein having been countered in phlebotomy procedure. We have found no use of these ban aids in our practice. Patients should be rather advised to let the blood clot…
