Refraction forms an important part of ophthalmology. Almost all ophthalmic patients need refraction. In past refraction was done with retinoscope with the availability of trail set and frame in most of the situations. The refraction was done under mydriatic. Then came streak retinoscope.

We are in the era of phoropters and autorefractors which has made refraction rather easy however refraction is left to technicians and optometrists. It is fine if refraction is done by a qualified optometrist even every refraction has to be done under the supervision of ophthalmologists. Since most of the ophthalmologists have lost interest in refraction so we have to mushroom of ophthalmic technicians.
