A major racket trapped in Kalaburagi where four hospitals involved in removal of uteruses of nearly 2,200 women, despite of losing their licences. According to the report filed by the health department, hysterectomies (surgery to remove the uterus) were unnecessarily done. Most of the women had approached the doctors complaining of minor ailments like stomach ache or pelvic pain or white discharge. They were subjected to ultrasound examination and were given some medication for a short period.

During their subsequent visits, without further evaluation, women who failed to get any relief were told that they would develop cancer of the uterus if they do not undergo a hysterectomy. Now the victim women and women activist groups are criticizing the government for not shutting down the hospitals.
