A 34-year-old female patient was normal until her 2nd delivery (7 years back) and she was admitted to ICU for the unknown reason. After discharge from the hospital, she showed apathy, excessive sleeping, and was not social. On examination, there was facial swelling, mild bilateral non-pitting lower leg edema, and her physical movements were very slow. If I ask any question she was taking 1-2 mins to reply, even getting up from examination bed took 2-3 minutes, mild pallor, no joint swelling or tenderness elicited, and the systemic examination was normal. Her Hb was 9.7, renal and liver parameters were normal, TSH was 0.17 mc IU/ml.
I gave some multivitamins and recommended to follow-up after a week. I think referring to a psychiatrist is a good option. What is the diagnosis? Is it postpartum depression? But can postpartum depression last for so long?
