Chronic high blood pressure (BP), or hypertension , is a primary risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. A team of researchers from the US has reported the therapeutic benefits of a new type of therapy , high-resistance inspiratory muscle strength training (IMST) for hypertension .

They found it to be as efficient as the conventional treatment regimen, including dietary and lifestyle modifications and/or pharmacotherapy.
