Now a days,one can find variations in the number of drugs being prescribed by the individual doctors for the same illness. I am forced to ask this question after I came across the prescription of a private practitioner who wrote five drugs for a patient with mild intermittent asthma as per the patient's complaints and my findings who consulted me found not much relief with the drugs prescribed. When a doctor prescribes multiple drugs after clinical examination for a single complaint Eg.heartburn by an otherwise healthy young man, the main allegation is that the doctor is not sure of the diagnosis or just to impress the patient that his health problem is serious and should be treated with more drugs.
