Most of the times we don't resist accepting gifts from a pharma representative. I am not saying "we take gifts", as we don't usually ask for. But we usually don't say "no" if some pharma representative takes out a gift and handovers it. One or the other way it comes under "receiving" a gift. Should we be saying "no" to such gifts? or should we be knowing what exactly the purpose of the gift is? Definitely "yes".
As per MCI "A medical practitioner shall not receive any gift from any pharmaceutical or allied healthcare industry and their sales people or representatives" MCI also sets some legitimate actions for those who accept gifts worth more than INR. 1000/-. MCI doesn't clarify on the frequency of receiving gifts (for those below INR. 1000/-). It also doesn't clarify what kind of gifts can be received (in that below INR. 1000/- category). I feel it's okay to receive gifts costing less…
