Today I discharged a patient, upon whom I carried out one of the rarest operation ever conducted, at just 3 to 4 occasion in the world, and probably first time in India. The operation is called ' Cardiac Auto Transplantation '. Usually this operation is designed for a patient who is suffering from aneurysm of left atrium due to chronic long standing mitral valve pathology, when left atrial(LA) dimension is more than 6.5 cm. It falls under category of aneurysm.
In my case diameter was 20x15x10 cm and patient was suffering from recurrent mitral valve stenosis (prosthetic valve degenerative stenosis - 18 year back bioprosthesis was implanted by me, usually life expectancy of first generation bio prosthesis at a child bearing age in a woman was not more than 6 years, whereas this lasted for more than 18yrs).
