Sigmoid Colon Volvulus : A Male of 55 year presented with acute abdominal pain with distension with constipation for a few days . This was the first episode. Patient was haemodynamically stable. CT Scan of Abdomen was suggestive of Sigmoid Volvulus. Emergency Laparotomy was done & Volvulus of Sigmoid was found with huge dilatation.
Sigmoid mesentery was unduly large which was the culprit for the Volvulus. Sigmoid was distended with only Gas & there was no fecal matter. So after untwisting, Sigmoid Resection with primary Anastomoses was done without proximal diversion. Patient passed stool on 4th day & post operative was uneventful.
