Apparently, a healthy 35-year-old lady has recurrent typhoid 4 to 5 times till now in last 6 months always proved by widal and typhi dot. On treatment by cefixime and ofloxacin for a week to 10 days fever subsides but recurs after 2 to 3 weeks. Falciparum malaria was uprooted 6 months back. For last few years also having various joint pains with swellings and is on methotrexate for few months by orthopedician. Presently on ofloxacin and cefixime, 200 mg each but fever is persisting even after a week.
Her left proximal thumb and other phalangeal joints are swollen and painful. Bl c/s has been done today in that few antibodies are positive. Should she be treated by other antirheumatics? What is the cause and treatment of recurrent typhoid with arthritis?
