I have a 52-year-old Christian patient. He came to me with complaints of pain in both heels since few months. I ordered serum uric acid, serum calcium level, Liver function test, Kidney function test and random blood sugar tests. All the reports including uric acid were normal except serum potassium level which was 7.2.
I called the lab and asked to recheck potassium level and KFT, also asked the patient to get these test done again from some other lab but the results were the same. Ultrasound of the abdomen showed cholelithiasis (11mm stone) but no problems in the kidney. As the patient is a Christian alcohol is part of their diet, but he is not a heavy drinker. Kindly help me establish the cause of hyperkalemia.
