Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension (CTPH) is associated with the formation of fibrotic material that obstructs large pulmonary arteries, thereby causing persistence shortness of breath. It is responsible for significant morbidity and mortality. According to one study, 3.8% patient with acute pulmonary embolus will develop CTPH.
