August 21–25, 2017, marks the fourth annual Contact Lens Health Week. Although most contact lens wearers receive the benefits of vision correction, contact lenses can pose an infection risk, especially if they are not worn and cared properly. Practicing proper contact lens hygiene and regularly visiting an eye care provider are important behaviours for keeping contact lens wearers’ eyes healthy. New research should serve as an eye-opener on the importance of safety when it comes to wearing contact lenses.

The report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention finds that the majority of teens and adults who wear contact lenses admit to at least one habit that puts them at risk of infection.
