Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), has been thought to be associated with cardiovascular complications. A second confirmatory study recently published states that COPD independently increases risk of sudden cardiac death risk several times. COPD is disease that is characterized by chronically poor airflow in the respiratory system. COPD usually gets gradually worse over time and can ultimately result in death. It is estimated that 3% of all disability is related to COPD.

Especially in elderly sudden cardiac death (SCD), is found to be associated with COPD. The scientists have gone further to find the association of COPD with SCD in general population.
