Coronoid fractures are often observed as a part of complex elbow fracture-dislocations, which are relatively uncommon injuries and rarely occur in isolation. They are often recognized as critical injuries that occur in approximately 2%–15% of patients with elbow dislocation and result in persistent elbow instability.
