Coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) is considered as an independent risk factor for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) as a result of the induction of endothelial dysfunction, coagulopathy, cytokine storm, and plaque instability. 1 The interaction between angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptors and the virus, during the viral entry, leads to a down-regulation of the protective ACE2 receptor, hyper-inflammation, oxidative stress, leading to acute lung injury (ALI) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). This also leads to hypertension, vasoconstriction, coagulopathy, and inflammatory together increasing the risk of AIS.
