The ACC/AHA guideline recommends the use of any of the five classes of the first-line medications (including thiazide or thiazide-like diuretics, ACE inhibitors, ARBs, or CCBs) in the treatment of hypertension . However, there is uncertainty regarding the optimal monotherapy for hypertension as the treatment ideologies tend to diversify across the community based on the existing research data. To address this issue, LEGEND-HTN ( Large-scale Evidence Generation and Evaluation across a Network of Databases for Hypertension ) study compares all hypertension treatments for a set of standard efficacy and safety outcomes of drugs associated with the treatment of hypertension.
