Defensive medicine (DM) is an improper medical practice by physicians to avert litigations, criticism, lawsuits, and sabotage of their reputation. A lot of factors have led to the rise of such practices in developing countries where availability of advanced medical facilities, awareness among patients, and economic status pose limitations. The practice of unessential and high-end examination to protect oneself from litigations out of erroneous behavior of attendants makes DM a morally debatable concept and the solution to minimize this seems to revolve around a balance in the patient-physician relationship.
