In India, currently, there is increasing aging population and higher prevalence and incidence of diseases such as stroke and cardiovascular disease as compared to other developing disease. There is a rise in published literature about dementia however it does not suffice the current situation of dementia in India. This article is an attempt to present an overview of dementia in India. Dementia is usually a disease of the elderly caused by progressive loss of synapses and neurons, and characterized by memory dysfunction, and global cognitive impairment.
