The Dubai Health Authority has recently announced the integration of the electronic medical record (EMR) system with the laboratory information system and blood banks. The initiative aims to improve the safety and accuracy of the blood transfusion process. According to Dr.
Farida Al Khaja , the CEO of DHA’s Clinical Support Services and Nursing Sector, the DHA will adopt artificial intelligence to add an additional layer of safety in the blood transfusion process . The integration of SALAMA , the unified EMR with the laboratory information system will ensure that the patient’s information matches the patient’s blood units, thereby, eliminating any possible source of human error . In case any mismatch of the blood unit with the patient’s blood type/details is detected by the system, the nurse will be promptly notified, thereby halting the initiation of the blood transfusion process.…
