The increasing mortality and disability-adjusted life years (DALY) due to oral cancer is a global public health challenge. Oral cancer is more common in men and older people and varies strongly depending on the socio-economic condition. The use of tobacco and smokeless tobacco, alcohol consumption, and human papillomavirus infection are major risk factors for oral cancer. The significant increase in the incidence of oral cancer implies the need for increased screening.
