Doctor patient relationship was sacred once upon a time; not anymore. We keep hearing attacks on doctors at some place or the other. It has rightly angered doctors community yet it is also the time to do some introspection. The general erosion in values maybe one reason, the daily struggles and dissappointments with the system could be another.
Increasing cost of health care has affected everyone yet we can not absolve our own responsibility in this precipitous situation. The time given to patients, lack of transparency, communication skills and building up of trust are the major reasons according to me for the downfall. I have learnt to behave with patients watching my own seniors and then with trial and error during long years of my practice.
