A District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum (DCDRF) in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, has ordered a private hospital and four doctors to pay Rs. 15 lakh in compensation to a female patient who suffered bladder damage due to medical negligence . In April 2019, the patient sought treatment for abdominal pain at a medical center in Coimbatore. After undergoing a full-body checkup, a doctor informed her that her uterus was weak. She then consulted a private hospital regarding a hysterectomy .

The hospital's medical officer recommended immediate surgery, which was performed the same day at a cost of Rs. 40,000. Following the surgery, the patient experienced urine leakage. Upon examination, the hospital informed her that her urinary tube had been damaged during the procedure, necessitating a second surgery to repair it using a stent.
