A team of doctors in Odisha, India, have removed a total of 77 needles from the head of a 19-year-old girl. The patient was initially admitted to one of the hospitals in Bolangir with severe headaches and later was transferred to another hospital where neurosurgeons extracted 70 needles in one surgery, followed by another seven during a follow-up procedure. Despite the extensive needle removal, the patient’s condition is stable, though she will require further observation and post-operative care. The girl had been suffering from frequent illnesses since her mother's death four years ago and had sought help from a sorcerer in 2021.

The presence of the needles was discovered recently when the girl complained of pain; the sorcerer has been arrested. How can such harmful practices be prevented to ensure better protection for our patients seeking medical help? Let us know by commenting…
