Patient Case Mr. G , a middle-aged man with an 8-year history of diabetes and gallbladder disease was being treated by an internist, Dr. IM . Towards the end of the first year of treatment , Mr. G developed pulmonary coccidioidomycosis and was immediately hospitalized. During hospitalization, Mr. G had undergone bronchoscopy and transbronchial lung biopsy. A specialist treating Mr. G at the hospital found no sign of malignancy and further treated him with intravenous (IV) erythromycin and cefuroxime .

For the next year, Mr. G was maintained on an antibiotic therapy ; however, during this period of treatment, he developed fungal pneumonia.
