Its unfortunate fact that doctors have long been ‘honored’ for having illegible and bad handwriting. Doctors handwriting has been a matter of joke among people and some doctors even proudly tell how they purposefully write in illegible manner. I personally feel its very irresponsible on part of a doctor to take bad handwriting so casually. Although it is pharmacist’s responsibility to crosscheck with doctor in case of confusing writing, this is not done every time. It can lead to serious medication errors and put patient’s health at harm.

In such cases, who should be held responsible, pharmacist or doctor? Should there be a penalty for doctors for illegible handwriting? Share your views.
