The medical profession is passing through a complex and difficult phase. Modern medical technology while enabling spectacular treatment modalities has the potential for causing serious harm due to unforeseen medical mishaps and often unnecessary interventions. The rising cost of medical technology is another issue. Standalone medical practices are becoming unsustainable due to economies of scale paving the way for corporate hospitals with their business models. Doctors, who managed individual practices or small nursing homes themselves, are losing autonomy to the corporate model of current medical care.
