Dry socket treatment (also called alveolar osteitis) focuses on pain relief and promoting healing. It typically develops 2–5 days after a tooth extraction, especially wisdom teeth, when the blood clot at the extraction site is dislodged or dissolves prematurely, exposing the bone and nerves.
