The effect of rehabilitation timing on the clinical recovery of strain injuries was unknown. But such knowledge is essential since acute muscle strain injuries are common, especially with the athletes. Moreover, such injuries lead to a significant risk of recurrence and substantial loss of time. Treatment options such as platelet-rich plasma are ineffective in such injuries. Hence, a group of researchers have focused on rehabilitation timing and investigated whether early or delayed use of injured musculotendinous tissue affected recovery after acute muscle-strain injuries.

The researchers carried out a randomized controlled trial with 50 athletes. 60% had a thigh muscle acute injury while remaining 40% had an injury to the calf muscle. All the patients were recruited within 48 hours of injury incidents. They were randomized to receive early therapy (within 2 days) or late therapy…
