Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the top five causes of death in Malaysia, yet studies with a pragmatic approach to estimating the long-term cumulative CVD risk are scarce. A recent study aimed to explore the link between socioeconomic characteristics and lifestyle practices and the 10-year CVD risk in the Malaysian population. 1 Study details ย  What was found? Participants who reported eating solely at home or less than six meals outside per week had a lower risk of CVD. No significant association was found between physical inactivity and CVD risk.

Having no formal education was associated with an increased risk of CVD. 12.2% of participants with no formal education had low CVD risk, 42.7% had moderate CVD risk, while 45.1% showed high CVD risk. What can be concluded? Although previous studies have linked unhealthy diets and physical inactivity to an increased risk of CVD 2,3 ,โ€ฆ
