Reuters Health Information Weekly Trelagliptin as Effective as Daily Alogliptin for Diabetes By Larry Hand February 17, 2015 NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - The once-weekly dipeptidyl peptidase-IV (DPP-4) inhibitor trelagliptin shows similar efficacy and safety as an approved DPP-4 inhibitor that's taken daily, and could improve compliance, Japanese researchers say. Takeda Pharmaceuticals, which funded the trial, markets alogliptin as Nesina in the U.S. and Vipidia in Europe. The company filed a new drug application for trelagliptin in Japan last March.
(Merck has also filed for approval of a once-weekly DPP-4 inhibitor in Japan; its drug is called omarigliptin.) The research team enrolled 357 patients between May and November 2012 and ultimately randomized only 245.
