A news on 24-hour-long surgery on conjoined twins has gained attention because of the enormity of this three phase project being conducted by AIIMS doctors for the first time in India. There have been only 50 such surgeries that have occurred across the world. In this regard, the ethical consideration involved in separating conjoined twins is discussed, however , these can be applied towards other plastic surgeries as well. The 28-month-old conjoined twins from Odisha underwent a venous bypass surgery in AIIMS on Tuesday.
This 24-hour long surgery is just one of the surgeries towards the actual separation of the babies that would happen during the second phase somewhere in October.
