Generally, TGFα is expressed in normal myelopoiesis and is believed to be implicated in non-hematopoietic malignancy. This article reports a study which assessed the expression of TGFα in bone marrow biopsies from patients with acute and chronic myeloid malignancies. TGFα plays a role in bone remodeling by inhibiting chondrogenesis and stimulating the bone resorption through effects on osteoclast development.
Along with this physiologic role, it may play a role in several pathological processes.
