A doctor has several duties towards his patients, and a breach of any of these duties gives the patient a right of action against medical negligence. COVID-19 pandemic has led to the rapid growth of teleconsultation and telemedicine services. However, the associated medico-legal and ethical challenges of teleconsultation include confidentiality issues of patients, maintaining the standard of care, obtaining informed consent from the patients, professional conduct, credentials and licensing of medical practice, reimbursement, penalties, and liabilities according to various prevalent laws. These challenges may adversely affect the acceptance and adoption of teleconsultation services.
