Acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections include infections with resistance to previously effective antimicrobial. Nowadays, with increasing resistance to antimicrobials, incidence of ABSSSIs has also been increased which in turn increases financial burden on the society. FDA has recently approved a new drug-Delafloxacin for the treatment of Acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSI) caused by susceptible Gram +ve and Gram -ve organisms. It acts by inhibiting DNA replication, transcription, repair and recombination.

It is available in oral and intravenous forms. Most Common adverse reactions include tendinitis, tendon rupture, arthralgia, myalgia, peripheral neuropathy, CNS effects and CDAD.
