The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in increased use of hand sanitizers. However, several manufacturers have taken advantage of the situation by selling hazardous methanol or wood alcohol-containing sanitizers. These sanitizers can lead to harmful conditions. The FDA has, therefore, warned against the use of such products.
The methanol or wood alcohol-containing sanitizers can be toxic when absorbed through the skin and life-threatening when ingested. The FDA has instructed manufacturers of such sanitizers to recall their products and has encouraged retailers to remove such products from their shelves.
