The government is likely to table the National Medical Commission (NMC) bill, 2017 in the Parliament on 30 th July 2018. The employees of the Medical Council of India fear to lose their jobs if the bill is passed. According to a clause in the bill “Any officer or other employee who has been, immediately before the dissolution of the Medical Council of India, employed on regular or contractual basis by the Medical Council of India, shall on and from such dissolution, cease to be the officer or employee of the Medical Council of India and his employment in the Medical Council of India stand terminated with immediate effect.” The bill states that those losing jobs will be adequately compensated.
