Few years back, a private practice always use to have a fellow name 'compounder'. The compounder is still a vital person in western countries where the prescription given by the physician is adjusted by the compounder specifically and accurately for the patient. However, in India, historically when British doctors were practicing, these compounders also handled the role of communicator. Hence, they were vital in providing services to the community. In the last decade or two though, it appears that qualified compounders have vanished.
The doctors have to handle patients, their prescriptions and questions making it difficult to handle the practice. However, we have also seen some compounders (quacks) who practice as doctors.
