As reported by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, an 11-year-old girl developed acute demyelination syndrome (ADS) secondary to COVID-19. This is the first case in India where a pediatric patient has developed serious neurological manifestation of COVID-19. The 11-year-old girl presented to AIIMS with vision loss. She was positive for COVID-19. An MRI of the brain revealed the presence of acute demyelination syndrome (ADS).
Following this, the girl was treated using immunotherapy. After the successful recovery of around 50% of her vision, she was discharged from the hospital. The doctors who treated the patient opined that the ADS has developed secondary to COVID-19.
