Florida has reported 22 confirmed Vibrio vulnificus infections and four deaths in 2026, according to the latest state health department update. The Florida Department of Health, in data updated on September 17, added one confirmed case in Santa Rosa County for the period ending September 12. The victim was described as being between 25 and 29 years old. The health department does not release identifying details. The four deaths reported so far in 2026 occurred in Bay, Broward, Marion and Palm Beach counties.

Florida recorded 33 cases and five deaths in 2025. V. vulnificus is not limited to Florida. Elsewhere along the Gulf Coast, Louisiana reported 17 cases and six deaths as of September 16, with 16 cases linked to wound or seawater exposure.
