The veno-muscular pumps of the lower limb are responsible for a series of events by their successive activation during walking. Essentially, they act like a peripheral heart, and along with the venous valves, they serve to avoid gravitational reflux during muscular diastole. The stiffness of the ankle and/or dispersion of the collectors in the gastrocnemius can hamper the functioning of the veno-muscular pump and worsen venous return, resulting in severe chronic venous insufficiency.

To gain deeper insights into the anatomy of veno-muscular pumps, join this exclusive session on “Functional Anatomy of the Veno-muscular Pumps of the Lower Limbs,” by Dr. Jean-François Uhl , on 28 th  October, 6:00 PM IST onwards. Stay tuned!
