Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), reported in 5.8–25.1% of pregnancies , is increasingly linked with ocular abnormalities in offspring. Documented findings include iris stromal hypoplasia, vascular changes, optic nerve hypoplasia, and reduced macular thickness/volume, with a higher risk of long-term refractive errors. These data underscore the importance of integrating ophthalmic surveillance into postnatal follow-up of children exposed to maternal GDM/DM.
