A new UNAIDS report has warned that the world is at risk of a resurgence of the HIV epidemic after global funding for HIV programs fell by 18% in 2025 to $7.3 billion, the lowest level recorded in nearly two decades. The report was released during the International AIDS Conference in Brazil. According to UNAIDS, the decline in funding was driven by political and financial disruptions that significantly affected international HIV assistance.
Although increased domestic spending by several countries helped limit the overall reduction in available HIV resources, many low- and middle-income countries were unable to offset the funding gap.
