The state government has taken action against 552 doctors under Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act after they were found violating the sex-determination norms. The information given by the public health department to the legislative assembly states that 552 centres have come under the scanner of the government between 2002 to February 2016 for violations of the Act and court cases have been filed against them. The issue was raised during the question hour by MLAs.
The MLAs also asked whether the doctors were misusing the sonography machines, whether machines were being taken from one place to another and whether complaints had been filed against the doctors in this connection or not.
