The government plans to bring all medical devices, including implants and contraceptives, under the lens of the Central Drugs and Standard Control Organisation so as to improve their safety and quality. In the draft notification today, The Ministry Of Health and Family Welfare said that they plan to define all medical devices which were not earlier in the scope of the apex drug controller as drugs under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. The timeline for implementation is December 1 while the government has to seek comments from all stakeholders within 30 days before the draft notification is finalized.
Once the draft is finalized, the import, manufacture, and sale of the medical devices will be certified by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) . Also, the manufactures will have to seek licenses from the Drug Controller General Of India (DCGI). The draft notification also…
