As an Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive surgeon, I unfortunately have to see the after effects of trauma after road traffic accidents (RTA) on a nearly daily basis. The vast majority of the RTAs in India involve motorcycles. Some of the injuries to the face are so severe that we sometimes wonder where the hell do we start repairing. And these are the lucky ones who at least get to the hospital to be stabilized. Many die at the spot of the accident or on the way to hospital-due to severe head injury, blood loss and/or shock.

In many of those cases the head is so badly smashed, that the person it belongs to is not even recognizable. I have been witness to brains smashed under truck tires with brain tissue all over the road.
