A 49-year-old woman had a sudden onset of hemiplegia and aphasia during a long haul flight. Present illness : Two hours before boarding the patient was well, however, on the flight she developed severe weakness on the right side and lost the ability to speak. As an emergency, the flight was landed and the patient was evaluated by emergency medical technicians at the airport. She had a right facial droop and was unable to life her right arm. Vital signs; BP, 146/82 mm Hg, pulse-100 beats/min and regular.
The capillary blood glucose level was 151 mg/dL. Past Medical History : migraine headaches, asthma, and recurrent intermittent swelling of her left thigh due to surgical excision. Medication : Aspirin several days per week (for headaches) and asthma inhalers.
