Obesity complicated with other systemic conditions such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, metabolic disorders, and sleep apnea is a predominant global healthcare issue. The Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society of India (OSSI) drafted its first set of guidelines on bariatric surgery in 2020, in compliance with those of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders Asia Pacific Chapter (IFSO APC).
